Rolling over Roth IRAs into Roth TSP

1

Q. I am a FERS employee. I am interested in rolling over my outside Roth IRAs into the Thrift Savings Plan’s new Roth IRA. Can I do this? If so, how do I go about it? I am paying too much in fees for small amounts.

A. Unfortunately, this is not permitted by the TSP.

  1. IRS Pub. 590 > Roth IRAs > Rollover From a Roth IRA: “A rollover from a Roth IRA to an employer retirement plan is not allowed.”

More importantly the IRS does not allow anyone to roll their Roth IRA into the Roth TSP.

Consider consolidating all your Roth IRAs into fewer or one account or single mutual fund. Look at low expense ratio index mutual funds.
