Medicare, VA and BC/BS

Q. I am retired from the post office and have BC/BS through OPM. I also have medical care through the VA.
When I turn 65 am I required to sign up for Medicare part B? If so, do I cancel my BC/BS?

A. No, you aren’t required to sign up for Medicare Part B. Even if you decided to sign up for Part B, it wouldn’t cancel your BC/BS enrollment. It would be up to you to decided if that was a good idea. Most retirees I’ve heard from who elected Part B coverage have continued their FEHB plan enrollment.
