Transferring to a G Fund

0

Q. My wife and I are both retiring next month under the FERS system. Since we will not be making any more contributions to TSP and the market can be volatile, would it be wise to transfer all of our funds to the safer G fund?

A. The choice of investment strategy should depend upon many more factors than the time until you retire. The G Fund is the most predictable of the TSP’s investment funds, and will insure you against loss in the short run. This is attractive unless you will need a higher rate of return than the G Fund will produce over the long run. There is no “best” investment strategy for everyone who is retiring next month.
