Q. Does one have to completely pay back TSP loans before one retires? I will have 30 years and 5 months of work under my belt and be 56 years old this month.

A. You don’t have to repay your TSP loan before you retire. Any unpaid balance, including interest, will be declared to be a taxable distribution and your loan closed about 90 days after retirement.
