Taking Social Security at 62

0

Q. I’m 62 years old with 30-plus years of service. I am CSRS Offset. What are the benefits (or disadvantages) of taking Social Security now while still working?

A. Unless you have a shorter-than-usual life expectancy, the only benefit that comes to mind is that it would enable an eligible spouse to claim a spouse’s benefit against your record.
